Reverand Larry Bostian
When Jim Upchurch gave me notice that God had called him to pastor First Baptist Church, Gibsonville, I received the news with mixed emotions. On one hand I was deeply saddened that he would be leaving Red Oak Baptist and that I would not be working with him any longer; on the other hand, I was excited for Jim because I knew God had great things in store for him and Rachel.
In the four months that I’ve been pastor of Red Oak Baptist Church, Jim has proven to me time and again his love for the Lord and his passion for God’s people. Because of Jim’s knowledge of the workings of our church and our congregation he made my transition as pastor much easier. I shall always be appreciative of his support, kindness and friendship, and I know that each of you have your treasured memories of Jim’s ministry. Therefore, it is indeed with sadness, excitement and anticipation of the future that we wish God’s richest blessings for Jim, Rachel, Isaiah and Jana. We will miss them!
On Sunday evening, July 11, 2010 we will be given an opportunity to express our love and appreciation to Jim and his family. We will gather in the sanctuary at 6:00 pm for a brief program followed by casual fellowship and food. A basket will be provided for our notes, cards, and love offering. Until then, please continue to pray for Jim, his family and his new place of service.
In His Love,
Pastor Larry

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ at Red Oak Baptist Church, On Sunday, June 20, I announced my resignation. I want to thank you for your love for my family and me. Thank you for your support, your gifts, and your prayers for these last 3+ years. I know that we are truly loved here. And I have gotten to know and love you as well. There are many of you that I wish I could have sat down with and told this to you in person. I have been with some of you in your rejoicing. I have been with many of you during your deep suffering. I won't forget those times and I won't forget you.
I have been called as the pastor of First Baptist Church in Gibsonville, NC (just on the western side of Burlington). This desire to serve as pastor has been growing in me over the last couple of years as I have served you. It's a desire I think God has planted in my heart. And I know this new opportunity wouldn't have been possible if I hadn't been with you, learning from you, and serving alongside of you. My last Sunday with you will be July 11, and I will begin my service at First Baptist Church on July 25.
Although we will be a couple of hours away, you will be in our thoughts and prayers. I look forward to hearing of you growing spiritually and bearing spiritual fruit and loving one another in years to come as Pastor Larry leads you. As soon as I get our new contact information, I'll send it to our secretary, Tena, in hopes of hearing from you.
Your Friend, Brother, and Servant in Christ,
Jim

Rev. Bert Woodburn
This month is an exciting month for the youth. in the beginning of the month, we will be doing a mission trip in the inner city of Philadelphia. We will have more than thirty youth and counselors participating on behalf of our church. They will serve inner city residents of Philadelphia in a variety of ways: Children’s ministry, Construction and Yard ministry, Creative ministry, Recreation ministry, and social ministry. In social ministry, they will be working in places like Salvation Army sites, Soup Kitchens, Clothing Distribution Centers, and Nursing Homes. As we take part in these various ministries, we will be given a valuable opportunity to share the gospel and the love of Christ with those we encounter. The youth and I would like to thank everyone who has given their time, prayers, and financial support over the last six months in preparation for this trip. It is truly a blessing when we can send over thirty people as missionaries for a week where we affect people through Christ.
We want to bring you up to date with some of the plans we have for the youth this summer. As a part of our Adventure NOW series, the youth will be heading to King’s Fest on July 8th (A Christian concert, amusement park, and water park) at King‘s Dominion. Sign up forms for youth and family that are interested are located in the youth room. We also have some other events starting in July: On Sundays, we will start up our special summer program “Destination Unknown.” The purpose of this program is that youth will be heading out to various “surprise” locations on Sunday evenings for fellowship and study. It is inspired by God’s plans for
our lives which are oftentimes beyond our own understanding or perception. On the last weekend of July, we will be having another Adventure NOW series event, which will be held at Lake Gaston as our Fourth Annual Lake Retreat. The Lake Retreat is designed as an affordable way for the Youth to have a camp experience locally and at a vital time; so that they may be spiritually recharged and excited for the beginning of school in August. Our past retreats were popular successes and we look forward to a memorable experience this year as it concludes a summer full of service and activities.
The youth leadership team has had a meeting recently, and has started the planning process for the next church year. We are excited for some of these plans and curriculum ideas which the team has begun to develop. We look forward to introducing this to our parents and members in the coming months.
God Bless,
Your Brother in Christ,
Reverend Bert Woodburn
